Hyderabad Initial Impressions
Posted by: Robert Molina

We arrived in Hyderabad, India today after spending four days in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. An educated eye can immediately notice the economic differences between the their inhabitants based purely on their streets. The cities’ streets are similar in that they are both congested, with Hyderabad being the worse of the two. However, they are drastically different in terms of the vehicles that occupy them. Dubai’s streets are filled with more modern and sometimes more luxurious cars and SUVS. Mercedes, BMW, Land Rover - they are all there. Rolls Royce and Ferrari also make an appearance as often as mosques call for prayer. Also, the streets are often occupied by construction vehicles supporting the accelerating buildout of the city, which is literally building up (cranes building skyscrapers touching the sky) and out (barges dumping a mix of sand and rock for artifical islands). On the other hand, Hyderabad’s streets are filled with vehicles probably dating back to before I was born. The vehicles are a cluttered mix of motorcylces, motorcycle taxis, buses, and cars, all constantly honking their horns.  You will also see construction vehicles, but less often and for smaller projects.

So I saw this Aston Martin DB6 in mint condition when I was in Dubai. Did you know that the vehicles in Dubai have a built-in, annoying, in-cab alarm that goes when the car revs up to a particular speed or higher? Its crazy! Would that be a great thing to put in the US - and instead of an alarm it would blurt out audio commercials?!

Thanks for keeping us posted. This is awesome.
